Plumbers Speak.
Below are some terms and words that are most commonly spoken by professional plumbers:

Appliances:
Appliances are machines or devices that operate by electricity. Or they can also be a functional piece of equipment fitted in a plumbing system, such as a hand basin or bath. A Twickenham Plumber is a skilled tradesman.

Air Separator:
This type of appliance is also known as a de-aerator, and is sometimes found in a fully pumped central heating system to maintain the neutral point, where the cold feed and vent pipes join the system.

Balanced Flues:
A balanced flue takes combustion air from outside, and also exhausts the products of the combustion form the boiler or heater out via the same flue, but different section with either a natural draft, or forced draft by using a fan.

Bleed Valves:
Small square recessed screw situated at one of the top corners of a radiator. Turning the screw with a key allows trapped air to escape, so that the radiator can fill with hot water and reach optimum temperature. Twickenham Plumbers can work on radiators.

Hard Water:
Water that contains a large percentage of dissolved minerals, which are deposited as lime scale inside kettle, hot water cylinders and heating systems.

Combination Boilers:
A design of boiler (combination) that is used for the central heating and as a unit to instantaneously heat water going to hot water outlets. It does away with the need to have a hot water storage cylinder.

Compression Joints:
This type of fitting is designed to create a tight seal by compressing a soft ring so it spreads out in the gap between the two items to be joined and securely fills that gap. They are easy to install and replace but they do not seal forever and will need to be replaced at some stage.

Equipotential Earth Bonding:
This type of earth bonding is done by linking all exposed pipework together by ‘non live’ green and yellow sheathed cable that runs back to the main consumer unit earth point. Should the pipe become live through contact with electricity, the current will flow to earth not through an individual.
